How has 2015 treated you so far? What were some of the highlights?
2015 has been pretty great to me so far. We did a tour of NSW in January and then in May I released my single, Why Don’t You Stay, and toured it nationally after sharing main stage at the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival which was so cool. The tour was really successful and we played at some great venues with awesome crowds. The song has been played by radio around the country including triple j and also high rotation on double j. I also showcased my music at Music Matters Live in Singapore and we played some other amazing festivals. We just spent last weekend playing shows in Arnhem Land in the NT, which was really incredible, so its been super busy so far.
Tell us about Lift You Up.
Its a piano driven track and I’d describe it as dark, groovy, electronic, hip hop and alternative soul. Its quite different like the last single and both songs are probably the most comfortable I’ve been musically.
Where was it written? What inspired it?
It started with a drum loop and groove that I came up with and the rest was all written in my lounge room. I kind of wrote it as I was recording the demo. Its quite a tender subject and it was a really hard one for me to write, but not in difficulty, more in emotion. Its kind of me in my most raw and real form in that moment.....pretty full on really.
How did recording go?
I recorded it with my producer and good buddy, Joel Quartermain. Its always so much fun recording with Joel - we have a blast! The two of us played all the instruments on the recording. It was mastered by Julian Lowe in the UK, who’s mastered for people like Amy Winehouse and Robbie Williams.

Lift You Up is launched on August 28 at Mojos and I’m stoked about that and can’t wait for people to hear it. Then I’m supporting Ash Grunwald while he’s touring in WA. We’ve got heaps of shows coming up as well as festivals including Queenscliff Music Festival and a South West run so its all good. I’m also working on some new music, too, which is very exciting.
