Sounds Australia is hosting a series of workshops across the country this winter, covering numerous topics on getting homegrown artists export-ready.

Topics will include understanding artists’ data and rights, putting on a compelling showcase, budgeting, taxes, visas and more, plus the opportunity to ask questions.

The export workshops will take place at the APRA AMCOS HQ, Ultimo, on Saturday, 4 July, SAE University College Adelaide on Saturday, 11 July, SAE University College Brisbane on Saturday, 18 July, Bakehouse Studios, Melbourne, on Saturday, 25 July, and the Old Courthouse, Fremantle, on Saturday, 15 August.

You can register your interest in the workshops here and find the timings below.

Between the workshops, Sounds Australia has lined up extra special events, including a run of exclusive sessions in partnership with YouTube Music, as well as a virtual information session on US visas, presented in partnership with Creative Australia.

The sessions with YouTube Music, focused on navigating the Indonesian music landscape, will be held in Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. Check out the dates and venues below and register to attend here.

Because Indonesia is one of Southeast Asia’s most active digital music markets, its scale is quickly becoming a key export market for Australian artists and labels.

During the presentations, YouTube Music Lead for Indonesia, Mikael Aldo, will be accompanied by Director of Indonesian Label and publisher Suneater, Kukuh Rizal Arfianto, as they outline a “multi-format release strategy” designed to export Australian artists into Indonesia.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 22 July, Sounds Australia and Creative Australia will host a virtual information session about US visas. Register here to receive a link to watch the session.

While applying for artist visas to tour the US has always been challenging, it’s become increasingly difficult over the last two years, with frequently changing rules, processing delays, the overall political climate in the US, and border enforcement.

As a result, Australian artists and their teams are either reconsidering touring the US or expressing concern and confusion. The session, which will also feature Matthew Covey, attorney and executive director of Tamizdat, is set to provide a clearer picture of the US artist visa process.
