Amyl And The Sniffers bassist Gus Romer has confirmed with fans that he’s taking a break from touring life for the rest of the year. But rest assured: all is fine, he’ll be back next year, and the band has brought in a wicked temporary replacement.

In a statement shared to the band’s Instagram Stories, a smiling Romer announced that punters won’t be seeing him at Amyl And The Sniffers’ upcoming tour dates. Instead, they’ll see Lakota Vella, from Melbourne’s hottest rising, uncompromising punk band, Public Figures.

“Hey everyone, just wanted to let everybody know that I’m taking some time off the road this year,” Romer wrote on Instagram.

He continued, “I’m alright and nothing to worry about. Lakota from Public Figures is stepping in to help us out on the tours this year, so make her feel welcome. I’ll see you all in 2027. Gus.”

Romer’s announcement comes a few weeks out from Amyl And The Sniffers’ upcoming tour of North America and Canada, which begins on Thursday, 4 June, in Toronto.

Between the US and Canadian dates, spanning June to October, the band will perform for fans in Europe and the UK in August, mostly at festivals.

On Friday (22 May), the highly anticipated release commemorating the tenth anniversaries of the band’s first two EPs, Giddy Up and Big Attraction, will be shared with the world. You can pre-order/pre-save your copy here.

The tenth anniversary record will be unveiled in a gatefold sleeve, with Chris Sutherland’s 2017 band photo at centre stage. Plus, fans can read an exclusive new essay from singer Amy Taylor and see never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photos from those early days by Jamie Wdziekonski.

Following the release of their early EPs, Amyl And The Sniffers released their self-titled debut album in 2019. That record was followed by 2021’s Comfort To Me and 2024’s Cartoon Darkness, the latter of which won Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album, and Best Cover Art at the 2025 ARIA Awards.

Last month, Amyl And The Sniffers took home three wins at this year’s APRA Awards, including the Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year and Most Performed Rock Work for the playfully controversial Jerkin’, as well as the coveted Songwriter of the Year award. With the latter, the band took home the award for a second consecutive year.
