Gang of Youths are finally coming home. The Sydney-formed, London-based band have confirmed their first Australian show in four years, and it’s a grand return.

On Saturday, 8 and Monday, 10 August, Gang of Youths will make their Sydney Opera House debut, playing for two exhilarating nights at the Concert Hall. According to a press release, the evenings will entail “new material alongside soaring favourites” from their beloved catalogue.

Subscribers to the Sydney Opera House’s Insiders can access pre-sale tickets on Tuesday, 30 June, at 9 am AEST, followed by the venue’s What’s On pre-sale on Wednesday, 1 July, at 9 am AEST.

The general sale opens on Friday, 3 July, at 9 am AEST. You can find tickets and more ticketing information on the Sydney Opera House website.

Fronted by singer-songwriter David Le’aupepe, who’s joined by drummer Donnie Borzestowski, guitarist and keyboardist Jung Kim and multi-instrumentalist Tom Hobden, Gang of Youths are one of Australia’s most celebrated bands.

They emerged with their acclaimed debut album, The Positions, in 2015, followed by their grandiose follow-up, Go Farther in Lightness, in 2017, and their third and most recent album, Angel in Realtime, in 2022, which won the J Award for Australian Album of the Year.

Their impact remains strong – during last year’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, hosted by triple j, their 2015 song Magnolia made it to #42 on the countdown, accompanied by their 2017 tracks, Let Me Down Easy at #60, and The Deepest Sighs, the Frankest Shadows at #87.

Recognised for their emotionally charged music that explores love, loss and identity, as well as their electric live shows, Gang of Youths have sold out shows in Australia and abroad and shared the stage with Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, Sam Fender, and more.

On their highly anticipated return to the stage, David Le’aupepe said, “There’s no place like home! We’re incredibly excited to be back, playing in Sydney, to finally play some new music in one of the most special venues in the world.”

Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, added, “Praised for pairing crushingly intimate storytelling with monumental ambition, Gang of Youths have carved out a singular place in the Australian music landscape.

“They have a rare ability to make the deeply personal feel universal, transforming stories of personal grief, vulnerability and belonging into powerful moments of collective catharsis. After four years away from Australian stages, these performances promise a special and thrilling homecoming from one of the country’s most acclaimed live bands.”
