Madonna’s tenth album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, turns ten this November – it’s now old enough for fans to feel nostalgic about it, so much so that fans have been hungry for a sequel album.

That’s exactly what the American pop icon will do on Friday, 3 July, when she releases Confessions II via Warner Records. The new album is the continuation of its beloved counterpart, Confessions on a Dance Floor.

At the time of publication, Madonna hasn’t released a single from her forthcoming album, but she has unveiled the first taste of it via a teaser that you can watch below. Confessions II can be pre-ordered/pre-saved here.

Madonna summarises her upcoming release by quoting the first few lines of her song, One Step Away: “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”

She added, “When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto.”

The manifesto reads as follows:

We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years — they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect—with your wounds, with your fragility.

To rave is an art. It’s about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people.

Sound, light, and vibration

Reshape our perceptions

Pulling us into a trance-like state.

The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it, but we feel it.

Altering our consciousness and dissolving ego and time.

Confessions II is Madonna’s first record to be released via Warner Records since 2008’s Hard Candy. On the sequel record, she continues her exploration of dance and electronic music, having reunited with producer Stuart Price, who co-wrote and produced the original album.

So far, four tracks have been confirmed to feature on Confessions II: I Feel So Free, Forgive Yourself, Fragile, and One Step Away.

The original album features the hit single Hung Up, which topped the charts in 41 countries. With an iconic sample of ABBA’s Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), Hung Up preceded the release of subsequent singles Sorry, Get Together, and Jump.

At the 2007 Grammy Awards, Madonna took home the win for Best Electronic/Dance Album with Confessions on a Dance Floor.
