Jem Cassar-Daley has teamed up with Dan Sultan to honour a classic Australian song: Who Can It Be Now? by Men At Work for Like A Version.

Stripping the song back to its bare bones, Cassar-Daley plays the chords on the keyboard and opens the song with a tender verse before the band’s arrangement expands, welcoming Dan Sultan, who curiously sounds kind of similar to Colin Hay.

With a full band and backing singers behind them, Cassar-Daley and Sultan shine a new light on a song we’ve all heard many times. And while we missed that iconic saxophone, the cello was a lovely touch.

Opening up about the song choice, Cassar-Daley explained that she grew up “adoring” everything about Men At Work, and her mum, in particular, blasted it quite often. She added that the song’s saxophone hook caught her attention, and Colin Hay’s songwriting has inspired her as an artist.

Cassar-Daley also stated that it was “such a treat” to perform alongside Dan Sultan, whom she’s looked up to for years.

While she was in triple j’s Like A Version studio, Cassar-Daley performed one of her own tracks, Cool Girl, which she said was inspired by the story behind Gone Girl.

Having recently performed at this year’s Blak Day Out, Jem Cassar-Daley is preparing for a big year, which includes a nomination at the 2026 AIR Awards and an upcoming appearance at BIGSOUND. Plus, in April, she – alongside Ball Park Music and Hollow Coves – was one of the night’s biggest winners at the Queensland Music Awards.

Since bursting onto the Australian music scene in 2021, Cassar-Daley has flourished as a performer, with soulful vocals and songwriting talent drawing fans, as well as radio and media attention. Last year, she was nominated for APRA’s Emerging Songwriter of the Year award. It’s clear that in 2026, her big moves continue.
