G Flip ProfileAnother three performers have been added to this year’s AFL Grand Final Pre-Game Entertainment, joining homegrown pop sensation Kylie Minogue for the biggest day on the Melbourne sporting calendar.
The AFL has made this year’s pre-game entertainment programming an all-Australian affair. Headliner Kylie Minogue is joined by Australian music stars G Flip, Michael Paynter and Mike Brady at the MCG before the siren on Saturday, 26 September.
ARIA Award-winning, Melbourne-born artist G Flip will play a set opening for Kylie Minogue; Mike Brady is set to perform his enduring, iconic sporting hit, Up There Cazaly, to continue Grand Final Day traditions; and acclaimed singer-songwriter Michael Paynter will perform the Australian National Anthem.
The Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment will take place before the first siren for the AFL Grand Final goes off at 2:30 pm AEST. The Pre-Game Entertainment and the match itself will be broadcast live on Channel 7 next Saturday.
AFL Executive General Manager Customer, Commercial and Technology Bec Haagsma expressed delight at this year’s performers’ line-up.
“The Toyota AFL Grand Final is a celebration of our game and its place in Australian culture, and we’re delighted to welcome G Flip, Michael Paynter and Mike Brady to this year’s Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment line-up,” Haagsma said.
Adding that G Flip has enjoyed a “huge year” with their hit single, Bed on Fire, going viral; describing Paynter as a “remarkable vocalist” who will deliver the National Anthem; and stating that Up There Cazaly remains “synonymous with footy and Grand Final Day,” it’s clear that there’s plenty to look forward to before Kylie Minogue even takes to the stage.
Haagsma continued, “Together with Kylie Minogue, this is a fantastic line-up for fans. Whether they’re among the more than 100,000 people at the MCG or watching the broadcast across Australia and around the world, we want them to feel the energy and excitement of Grand Final Day from the very beginning.
“We thank Telstra for its ongoing support in helping us bring this memorable pre-game experience to fans everywhere.”
Alita McMenamin, Telstra Head of Marketing, Communications, Brand and Sponsorship, added, “Working together with the AFL, we’re super proud of the line-up this year. At a time when international algorithms disadvantage Aussie Artists, it is great to be able to support such amazing homegrown talent.
“Whether you’re in the stands at the MCG or watching from your lounge room, this year’s Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment promises something special.”
Last week, it was reported that Kylie Minogue will showcase a 20-minute extravaganza that’s set to be “the biggest spectacle ever seen at the MCG” for Grand Final day.
The Sunday Herald notes that Kylie’s performance, produced by the international singing team in partnership with Mushroom and the AFL, will be a “world-class production.” What will her performance feature? An avant-garde stage, dancers, and visual elements that have never been seen before during a Grand Final performance.
Yarra Park will also host a Footy Festival and a Kylie Village, where fans can buy exclusive official merchandise: Kylie Village and the Footy Festival launch on Wednesday, 23 September.
