FBi Radio Launches National 'Northern Lights' Competition

If you're a solo producer/artist or band, and want to go to Iceland, look within

Stalwart Sydney community radio station FBi Radio has announced that it will launch its first-ever national competition to take a solo producer/artist and a band all the way to Iceland's Airwaves Festival.

Having lent a helping hand to Sydney-based producers Oliver Tank and Rainbow Chan in 2011 and 2012, FBi is once again holding its Northern Lights competition, this year extending its reach around the country to open up the chance to play in Reykjavik in November to musicians in every state.

Philanthropist Mitchel Martin-Weber is the brain behind the FBi-Airwaves partnership, which was conceived in 2011, when Martin-Weber was looking for new ways to better expose and promote Australian music internationally.

“Iceland is a world away from sunny Australia, and I thought, 'What an amazing opportunity – send some of Australia's best new musical talent to a spectacular location to play to the best in the business,” Martin-Weber said in a statement.

In conjunction with the competition's new national platform, FBi is taking their forthcoming monthly Music Open Day on a road trip, with assistance from their community-radio brethren around the nation.

The national call-out has once again been made possible as a result of Martin-Weber's support, as well as assistance from the federal government.

Entries for the Northern Lights competition are now open, and will remain so until July 21. If you're an emerging solo artist/producer or band, and an Australian resident, you are eligible to be a part of it.

The Music Open Day road trip is going down from July 11-18, appearing at Brisbane's 4ZZZ on the 11th, Adelaide's Fresh FM on July 15, and RTR FM, in Perth, on July 16.
