More PNAU PNAU

Every Friday, thousands of artists from across the globe release new music. It’s a lot to follow, week by week.

New Music Friday can be overwhelming, especially if you just want to hear a couple of singles here and there, and even more so if you’re trying to find new Australian music. That’s where The Music comes in.

With our weekly updated playlist, Friday Finds: This Week’s Best New Music, The Music’s team sifts through streaming services, social media, our inboxes, and elsewhere to find the best new homegrown music – as well as some banging international tracks – to present you with ten fresh new songs you need to hear.

This week, we have new music from PNAU, Rowena Wise, Madonna, Jorja Smith, Budjerah, and more. Before you listen to each track, though, here’s a bit more info on each one:

PNAU - Chemistry (feat. Master Peace)

Chemistry is the latest cut from PNAU’s upcoming album, AHHCade, and it’s yet another powerful, eclectic danceable tune from the Aussie dance group. Joining forces with genre-blurring South London artist Master Peace, it makes for a must-hear single.

Rowena Wise - Home In This World

The acoustic, tender Home In This World finds Rowena Wise honouring the part of herself that sometimes feels “utterly alone in the universe.” If you know the feeling, and, like Wise, decided to embrace that solitude for its perks, this is a song that will speak to you.

Madonna - Danceteria

As Madonna unveils her highly anticipated new album, CONFESSIONS II – the sister album to her 2006 record, Confessions on a Dance Floor – she shares the album highlight, Danceteria. Undeniably catchy, Madonna encourages you to warm up your own dance floor, even if it’s in your bedroom.

Airbourne - Kid In A Candy Store

Airbourne make us feel like excited kids in candy stores with their latest track, Kid In A Candy Store, a rip-roaring rock tune from the Aussie rockers who have taken their tunes to a global stage. It’s a classic rite-of-passage kind of song, calling back to their icons: AC/DC’s Whole Lotta Rosie.

The Lazy Eyes - Always In The Back Of My Mind

Psych rock outfit The Lazy Eyes explore their “softer, love song side” on the effortlessly sparse, introspective Always In The Back Of My Mind. It’s the band like you’ve never heard them before, and the perfect kind of track to feature on their upcoming Cheesy Love Songs LP.

Jorja Smith - Alive feat. Wizkid

Alive – featuring Afrobeats star Wizkid – is the lead single from Jorja Smith’s just-announced new album, What Are The Odds. The warm, danceable, atmospheric track chases that feeling of first love and the infatuation that comes with it, while the instrumentation around Smith feels like it’s straight out of a house party.

Vera Blue – Maze

Vera Blue continues the rollout for her forthcoming album, Modern Rituals, with the cinematic dance number, Maze. Born while on tour with Flume several years ago, Blue’s unmistakable vocal floats above euphoric, moving instrumentals.

Snow Patrol & Kylie Minogue – These Alarms

In an unexpected turn of events, Irish rockers Snow Patrol, known for their soaring ballads, have teamed up with Australia’s Queen of Pop, Kylie Minogue, to unveil These Alarms. It’s a poppy little number, with Gary Lightbody and Kylie trading verses and harmonies alongside pulsating synths.

Budjerah - Even At My Worst

Penned by acclaimed songwriter Diane Warren (Beyoncé, Lady Gaga), and produced by Grammy Award-winning Om’Mas Keith (Frank Ocean, Jay-Z), the hype for Budjerah’s forthcoming debut album, Gentleman, is heating up with his soulful, layered new tune, Even At My Worst.

DMA’S – Killing Time

DMA’S have a pretty distinct sound by this point, but that doesn’t make their latest track, Killing Time, any less euphoric to listen to. With their self-titled album on the way, they shine with another propulsive, deeply honest song.
