"I want to pay homage to what the Gaso has been for so long," says Pickett, who will operate as The Gaso with a focus on dining and live music.

“I think we're really looking forward to enjoy The Night Cat like we have for the last three decades, and hopefully that continues for another three decades."

"Here at Lulie, we wanted to ensure we raise the bar in engagement with our punters and keep the music pumping well into the future," the venue owners explained.

“Unfortunately, we’re no longer in a position to continue operating," organisers wrote on social media.

“Whilst completely out of our control, we apologise to our guests, team, promoters and bands for the uncertainty of this ongoing closure and appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience.”

The grants are part of a $35.4 million package in the Victorian Budget 2023/24 to support the local music industry.
