Canadian R&B and neo-soul singer Daniel Caesar has cancelled his forthcoming tour of Australia, citing “health reasons.” He shared the sad news on his Instagram Stories.

Initially announced in August, the tour was scheduled to begin this week. Demand led to two shows at Sydney’s Afterpay Arena on Thursday, 5 and Friday, 6 November, followed by two nights at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, 8 and Monday, 9 November, and an evening at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Thursday, 12 November.

The shows would have marked his first-ever arena tour in Australia. Along with cancelling the tour on our shores, Caesar pulled two scheduled performances in Hawaii.

“Unfortunately, the Son of Spergy Australia and Hawaii shows are cancelled until further notice, due to health reasons,” Caesar’s post reads.

It continued, “Refunds will be available at your original point of purchase. Thank you all for your understanding and support.”

Last October, Caesar unveiled his fourth album, Son of Spergy, which became his third Top 10 album on the Billboard Canadian Albums and first on the Billboard 200.

In a recent interview with Clash Magazine, Caesar said the album came from a spirit of reconciliation with his parents and that Spergy is his father’s nickname. Throughout the record, he confronts themes such as masculinity, faith, and self-importance.

Caesar elaborated in a press release, “I have a lot of respect for my dad, and I hold him in high regard. The album is about me realising that I am exactly like him. In that sense, it’s about having patience, respect, and admiration for myself.”

The singer-songwriter last toured Australia in November and December 2023, performing at the iconic Sydney Opera House, Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. He made his Australian debut in March 2018.
