Medusa Bar, located in the back alleys of the Victorian city of Geelong, has new owners. But they plan on continuing the work started by previous owners and promise “more gigs, more events, and more reasons to get off the couch and grab a cold beer.”

The space opened in March 2022 at the historic Rock O’Cashel Lane, the site previously occupied by the beloved venue, Rock O’Cashel. Initially operated by Scott Hunt, founder and owner of Valhalla Brewing & Taproom, the venue is home to live music, food, and drinks.

Described as a “hidden gem,” Medusa Bar offers a “typical dive bar flair” with subtle touches of elegance and charm.

“The rumours are true. Medusa has been sold,” the new owners wrote in a statement on social media. “So, what does that mean? Honestly… not much. Medusa will be staying Medusa!”

They added that punters can still expect local, independent bands performing every weekend, plus $3 pots for Happy Hour each Wednesday, the same friendly bar service, and local independent beers on tap.

“Most of the changes will be happening behind the scenes,” the statement continued. “What you might notice is more gigs, more events, and more reasons to get off the couch and grab a cold beer.

“Who are we? We’re Geelong locals and music lovers, and we would’ve hated to see one of Geelong’s best live music venues disappear.

“A big thanks to the previous owners for everything they created and for keeping the doors open for live music.

“We’re very excited to be steering the next chapter of Medusa. To all Medusa’s supporters, old and new, we can’t wait to see you at the bar!”

Medusa Bar is open from Wednesday to Saturday – 4 pm until 10 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 4 pm until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
