Black Rat is the sound of the duo starting to turn down the stereo at the end of the night to let people know it’s time to leave. It’s going to be exciting to see what they do for the after-party.

The band have raised their game across the board: breakdowns add to songs rather than interrupt them, textures and layers don’t come from clichés, while the scream/clean vocal balance is on the money throughout.

After a while it’s enough to drive anyone into a paranoid fit. Despite some pleasantly odd disjointedness, there’s not enough to detract from these tracks’ tedious melodies.

Though not a challenging listen, this album should still please their fans.

Kinbom co-wrote and played on Sarah Blasko’s I Awake and features her eerie wordless vocals on final track, Roots And Rubble. A slow and beautiful record.

Rhythmic guitar and Haydn Mansell’s soaring notes fuse effortlessly together in single Airhead as drums gently patter in support. However it’s closer Lonely Arms that truly embodies their airy, cinematic aesthetic.
