Tom Morello Details New Album 'Everyone Gets Everything They Want'

Tom Morello, best known as the pioneering guitarist with Rage Against The Machine, has shared the details for his long-awaited new solo album, which he’s also described as his first-ever solo rock record.

The album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, will be released on Friday, 25 September, via Mom + Pop Music. Along with the album announcement, Morello has unveiled the new single, Date Night.

Morello’s new single shares the tale of three young Dutch girls who served as “spies, saboteurs, and assassins against the Nazis during World War II.” They use their youthful, innocent appearances to sneak through checkpoints, smuggle weapons, sabotage rail lines, and help Jewish children escape persecution.

Morello said of Date Night, “I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis. ‘Date Night’ is really a ‘which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math. Oh, and Roman Morello wrote the killer riff in this tune.”

Everyone Gets Everything They Want is home to the recently released single, Adjourn It, featuring Morello’s teenage son, Roman, on guitar, and System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian. Other collaborators, rockers Beartooth and Irish party-starters Kneecap, will feature on album tracks Everything Burns and Unconquered, respectively.

The album also features the single Soldier in the Army of Love, which arrived last year.

In a recent interview with The Music, Morello teased the upcoming record. He shared, “I’ve made lots of rock albums, and I’ve made lots of solo records.

“But this is the time where I’m really going to apply myself and all of my Morellian riffs, you know—the kind of riffs that were the meat and potatoes of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave but matched with The Nightwatchman stuff, too.”

He continued, “So, it’ll be somewhere between Rage riffs and Springsteen’s Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Those are kind of like the two goalposts there, and I’m going to steal a lot more of Roman’s riffs for this record, too [laughs]. Let me just tell you that I’m not afraid of that.”
