American guitarist Tom Morello has teamed up with System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian and his shredding 15-year-old son, Roman, for a forthcoming single.

Morello, known for his work as the lead guitarist of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, and more, has slowly unveiled music from his long-gestating, first proper solo album.

While Morello has released other solo records, including his works as The Nightwatchman and the Atlas Underground series, his upcoming release is about spotlighting himself rather than a long list of collaborators. That doesn’t mean he’s completely done away with guest performers, though.

Taking to social media, Morello confirmed that his forthcoming single, Adjourn It, will feature Roman and Serj Tankian. It’s set for release on Friday, 29 May.

Here’s what he had to say about Adjourn It: “The song was inspired by ‘The persecution of immigrants across the land and the counterforce of a heroic resistance to the rising tide of fascism. ADJOURN IT is a ‘Freedom Song’ of crushing riffs for justice and equality.’”

The collab of Adjourn It comes as no surprise, as Morello and Tankian have enjoyed a decades-long relationship that includes co-founding the non-profit organisation, Axis of Justice.

The pair founded the organisation “to bring together musicians, fans of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice together,” and “aim to build a bridge between fans of music around the world and local political organizations to effectively organize around issues of peace, human rights, and economic justice.”

In an interview with The Music last year, Morello opened up about what his first-ever solo rock album actually entails.

“I’ve made lots of rock albums, and I’ve made lots of solo records,” he began. “But this is the time where I’m really going to apply myself and all of my Morellian riffs, you know—the kind of riffs that were the meat and potatoes of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave but matched with The Nightwatchman stuff, too.”

He continued, “So, it’ll be somewhere between Rage riffs and Springsteen’s Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Those are kind of like the two goalposts there, and I’m going to steal a lot more of Roman’s riffs for this record, too [laughs]. Let me just tell you that I’m not afraid of that.”
