FloodlightsJacob Elordi might be one of the biggest names in Hollywood today, having appeared in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, Euphoria, and more.
Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that he’s from Brisbane. That is, until he discusses his music taste and talks about the Australian bands he loves.
In a recent conversation with MTV UK, Elordi highlighted two acts he loves, both hailing from Australia. “Right now, there’s two bands that I would take with me: Floodlights and The Slingers. They’re two Australian bands,” he said.
When he was asked about his favourite songs by both acts, he put forward Floodlights’ Tricky and Nullarbor, and for The Slingers, One More Day and Someday Sister, adding, “Just, honestly, the whole album; all the albums.”
Elordi was in the conversation with director Ridley Scott, promoting the science fiction film The Dog Stars. During the music chat, Scott cited Bach as an inspiration.

In an interview with The Today Show last year, Elordi opened up about how his upbringing in Australia influenced a major role: embodying the Creature in Frankenstein. He noted that Australian rainforest music and his sister helped him get into character.
Meanwhile, Floodlights are gearing up for a handful of performances, including a rare Melbourne headline show at the Corner Hotel as part of the venue’s 30th anniversary celebrations in October, as well as opening for DMA’S at the Royal Botanic Gardens for the Live At The Gardens series in November.
Their latest album, Underneath, was released last year and was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.
The Slingers, an Australian alt-country group, have released a steady string of impressive singles in recent months, including Jealousy, Heavyweight, and Payphone Man. Their debut album, Sentimentalism, was released in July 2023.
