One of Australia’s most exciting breakthrough artists, Holly Hebe, is making her live debut in New Zealand next week.
Performing at Auckland’s The Tuning Fork on Wednesday, 29 July, as part of Live Nation’s Next On series, fans will get to see Hebe premiere her new tracks in the country and play alongside special guests Sammi Heaney and Lucy Gray. Tickets are available via Moshtix.
“I'm so excited,” Hebe tells The Music. “I mean, I've never played in New Zealand before, so in my mind there's just no possible way that it won't be fun, touch wood!
“New experiences! I get to travel with my best friends – my band – and go to New Zealand. It's so cool. So I'm really excited, and I'm really excited to have Lucy Gray on that show too, I've loved her for so long."
Earlier this month, Hebe charted a new chapter of her artistic evolution with the release of her third EP, Mood Ring, which arrived to significant fanfare. Described as a “deeply intimate and sonically immersive” collection of songs, Hebe ensured that she would no longer be Melbourne’s “best kept secret.”
Mood Ring is an EP that captures the “highs, lows and contradictions of navigating love, loss and self-discovery” – the good stuff; the relatable kind of tunes we all love.
Hebe explained of the EP:
Mood Ring is a collection of songs about clinging onto signs, being desperately hopeful and aimlessly sad, superstition and heartbreak.
Whilst writing and producing this EP I spent a lot of time drawing and painting, thinking about colours and textures and then trying to emulate this in the sonic landscapes of the songs. Every song has a colour paired with it & eventually they all morphed into one giant emotional pinwheel for me that documents the last year of my life.
I wanted to lean into the whimsy of sparkling reversed sounds, vivid lyricism and layered vocals, and incorporate more of the piano which is well and truly my musical home base. All the songs are so special to me.
Along with her New Zealand debut, Hebe is taking Mood Ring across Australia this month – starting tonight at Sydney’s Metro Social.

Tonight’s gig is followed by shows at Brisbane’s MIC on Saturday, 25 July, the Auckland show, Adelaide’s The Austral on Friday, 31 July, Perth’s The Y HQ on Saturday, 1 August, and concludes at Melbourne’s The Espy - a matinee show - on Saturday, 8 August.
