The Amity AfflictionAhren Stringer, the former vocalist and bassist of Queensland post-hardcore outfit The Amity Affliction, has faced court on charges relating to a high-speed incident that occurred in regional Victoria last year.
As per Blunt, Stringer appeared in Victoria’s Benalla Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 21st to face five charges, including driving at a speed dangerous to the public, exceeding the speed limit by 45 km/h or more, refusing a preliminary breath test, refusing to undergo a preliminary oral fluid test, and using a vehicle “not in a safe or roadworthy condition.”
These charges relate to an incident which reportedly occurred in the Benalla region in 2025, where police allege that Stringer drove at speeds exceeding 190km/h. No plea was entered at last week’s hearing, with the matter adjourned to May 26th.
It’s the latest entry in a period full of turbulence for Stringer, which began in January 2025 when he told fans he would not be touring with The Amity Affliction “for the foreseeable future”. Weeks later, the band stated they had cut ties with Stringer, citing “certain behaviours” and a complete relationship breakdown.

“We acknowledge that we have all had our fair share of issues over the years,” the band wrote in a statement. “But sadly, over time, the relationship between Ahren and the band has completely broken down while he has been dealing with challenging elements of his personal life.
While a trademark dispute between Stringer and his former bandmates would launch just days later, May saw Stringer launch his Self Checkout project with ex-Volumes member Gus Farias. In September, it was announced that he had been hospitalised following a “serious and unexpected emergency.”
Following Stringer’s departure from The Amity Affliction, the group recruited Jonathan Reeves as their new bassist and vocalist, releasing their ninth album, House Of Cards, just last week.
