Fanny Lumsden Asked To Withdraw Nomination From 2017 Golden Guitar Awards

Country singer Fanny Lumsden has been requested to withdraw her APRA AMCOS Song Of The Year nomination in the upcoming 45th Golden Guitar Awards in January.

Her track Land Of Gold, from the 2015 album, Small Town Big Shot, falls outside the eligibility period for the Song Of The Year category — the rules/conditions state, "The nominated track must be a newly written Australian composition first released during the current eligibility period." 

The Country Music Association Of Australia (CMAA) cite human error for the song slipping through the eligibility criteria, but CMAA's Roger Corbett insists this will not hinder Lumsden's future successes.

"The eligibility criteria for all the categories are clearly stated but as with all systems where humans are involved there can be errors made. The bottom line is, we are compelled to trust that the artists or their management have submitted their nominations correctly.

"In my view the majority of the industry is behind Fanny Lumsden and wanted to see her succeed at this level after the significant impact she has made on the Industry in the last couple of years. We feel that despite this incident, we are sure that Fanny will continue to make very successful inroads in the industry."

Lumsden took to her Facebook to state, "Its kind of like being given an icecream [sic].. and then before you get to eat it someone whips it away from you..."

Land Of Gold as a single was released in 2016 and is still eligible for Single Of The Year and Qantaslink New Talent Of The Year. Her nomination for Song Of The Year has been replaced with Sara Storer's My Diamond.
