Australian rock guitarist Scott Kingman has announced that he’ll be stepping back from touring with The Screaming Jets after two decades of life on the road.

Kingman made the announcement on social media. He explained that his decision has been a “very difficult” one, but one that was necessary as he faces a health issue that requires less time travelling.

“After 20 incredible years with The Screaming Jets, I’ve made the very difficult decision to step away from life on the road due to a health issue that makes continued travel too great a risk,” Kingman wrote.

In addition to detailing his reason for leaving the touring life, Kingman shared his “admiration, gratitude and connection” to his bandmates in The Screaming Jets. He also explained that while he’s stepping back from playing shows, he’ll “stay active and creative” with the band.

“There are no words that can truly measure the admiration, gratitude, and connection I feel for the band and everyone involved over the years — every member, past and present; the support crews, past and present; and all the fans and beautiful folk who ultimately allowed me to experience this journey. It has been a great privilege, and I thank you all,” he continued.

“While I’ll no longer be part of the touring Jets, I’ll continue to stay active and creative within the camp, and I’m genuinely excited about what’s ahead for me and us now.

“Thank you all for your endless support, encouragement, and memories over the last 20 years. I’ll carry them all with me always.”

Kingman concluded his post, “To Dave [Gleeson] and to my late, great soulmate Pauly [Woseen], my love, admiration, and eternal thanks for the door you opened are endless.

“So, until we next meet, I’ll see you at the bar. Love, sweat and bad behaviour, Scotty.”

The Screaming Jets are performing at festivals for the rest of the year.

They’ll appear at the Where We Belong Festival in Redcliffe on Saturday, 27 June, the Full Throttle Ranch 1st Birthday on Saturday, 4 July, the Sounds Of Rock Festival, Hervey Bay, on Saturday, 19 September, and the Sounds Of Rock Festival, Townsville, on Saturday, 17 October.

You can find tickets on The Screaming Jets’ website.

Since joining The Screaming Jets, Kingman has performed on four albums, as well as the 30th Anniversary Edition of All For One. Plus, he and the band produced 2008’s Do Ya. The band’s most recent album, Professional Misconduct, was released in October 2023.
