NOT A DRILL: Taylor Swift's 'Eras' Tour Is Heading To Australia!!! Dates + VIP Packages Announced

After months of anxiety-building rumours, Taylor Swift has finally answered our prayers and unveiled the Australian leg of the Eras tour.

It’s an insanely short itinerary, though, taking in just two cities: Naarm/Melbourne and Wann-gal/Sydney. She’ll play two shows back-to-back at the Melbourne Cricket Ground – the first on Friday February 16, 2024 and the second the night after (February 17) – before tripling up at Accor Stadium over February 23-25. Joining her for all five shows will be fellow American multi-hyphenate Sabrina Carpenter, marking her debut Australian performances.

Tickets will be available in a range of VIP packages starting next week; Wann-gal's shows will go live first at 10am next Friday (June 30), followed by Naarm’s at 2pm. A VIP presale for American Express users will run over 48 hours Monday June 26 (starting at the same time as the primary sale in both cities), with a Frontier Members presale running over 24 hours from the same times next Wednesday (June 28). Standard ticket prices range from the modest $79.90 to the migraine-inducing $379.90 – but that’s nothing compared to the VIP packages. The cheapest of those (dubbed We Never Go Out Of Style) will run you $349.90, while the most expensive (It’s Been A Long Time Coming) comes in at $1,249.90; all of them come with a commemorative ticket, a set of four exclusive prints, a commemorative tote bag, a VIP tour laminate with matching lanyard, and a pin/sticker/postcard set. 

Naturally, Swifties outside Naarm and Wann-gal are livid. Twitter has exploded with fans in Meanjin/Brisbane upset that Swift will be skipping the Queensland capital, with one tweeting that it’s “cemented [their] vote for the next [premier] election”. Another fan mentioned that at Swift’s last show in the city, she quipped that she’ll “ALWAYS play Brisbane”, noting that they’re certainly “being played” with their omission from the tour news.

Patrick Gorman – a federal Labor member for Boorloo/Perth – joked in a tweet of his own that “it is a Cruel Summer that has Sweet Nothing for Perth in the Taylor Swift 2024 international tour”, assuring promoters that WA has “a Taylor made venue at Optus Stadium”, and that he’s “confident the Swifties of WA will use all their powers to Change this”.

The local leg of Swift’s Eras tour will mark her first time Down Under since 2018, when she hit four cities – Boorloo and Meanjin alongside Naarm and Wann-gal – in support of her Reputation album. She’s since released four original studio albums (Lover in 2019, Folklore and Evermore in 2020, and Midnights in 2022) and two Taylor’s Version remakes of previous efforts (Fearless and Red, both in 2021).

A third Taylor’s Version remake album – a new take on her 2010 LP Speak Now – will be released on July 7 via Republic, as revealed at one of the Nashville dates of the Eras tour. Earlier this month, Swift shared the album’s full tracklist, sporting guest spots from Fall Out Boy and Paramore’s Hayley Williams. That news came shortly after Swift was named the second richest woman in music, with a net worth of $740 million.

Also this month, the Eras tour was hyped up by none other than Gwen Stacy (RIP) herself, Emma Stone. In a chat with Vanity Fair, the Hollywood heavyweight raved about her time at the opening date of Swift’s tour in Arizona: “The concert was pretty amazing,” she said. “I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time. I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get. 

“She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind. I mean, the amount of sheer stamina to do three and a half hours and perform 44 songs and to maintain the extreme energy of the audience – I’ve never seen anything like it.”
