Georgia Maq is returning to Australia next month, today announcing her Alive & Well Tour.

“I was meant to announce this half an hour ago but I thought I was announcing on the 12th lol,” she quipped on Instagram, sharing the tour dates and venues. Tickets are now available via Georgia Maq’s Linktree.

The Alive & Well Tour begins at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Wednesday, 20 May. From there, Maq performs at Sydney’s Crowbar on Thursday, 21 May, Brisbane’s Crowbar on Friday, 22 May, Hobart’s Altar on Wednesday, 27 May, and concludes the run with a hometown show at Melbourne’s The Tote on Friday, 29 May.

According to tour promoters Select Music, Maq will be performing new songs alongside “everything you’ve missed.” The shows mark her first time playing in Australia since 2023, when renowned Melbourne band Camp Cope played their final show at the Sydney Opera House.

In 2023, Maq moved to Los Angeles after farewelling Camp Cope – the band she fronted since 2015 – and working as a nurse for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her most recent release, the God’s Favourite EP, was released last September. Earlier this year, she unveiled the singles Tropical Lush Ice and 10 Drunk Cigarettes.

Embracing influences such as Americana and folk, she said of the EP, “I think being a musician right now feels like we’re in the string quartet as the Titanic goes down, I feel like none of this matters or has any point to it but I hope that the songs find their way into someone’s ears when they need them; I think I make music for people who cry listening to Defying Gravity from the Wicked soundtrack.”

She continued, “I want to acknowledge that I stopped singing in an Australian accent - honestly, it was never really natural for me in the first place, I started singing when I was a kid in an American accent because I was brought up on country and bluegrass music (dad) and Cold Chisel (mum) and I feel like I’ve come back to that.

“Every release gets me closer to self-actualisation, and God’s Favourite is the next big step for me. Every time I release music, I look back at my catalogue and feel an urgent sense of shame and embarrassment - I feel different about this one though, [collaborator] Daniel Fox was a huge part of this, he’s my collaborator and one of my best friends and we bring such different things into the songs and he’s really helped me find myself through the music.

“I think maybe this EP is me connecting to my mum also, it was unintentional, but I think the songs are letters I’m sending to her back home.”
