Foo Fighters have just uploaded a new release to YouTube.
The description - somewhat cryptically - reads: “Instrumentals recorded in 1995. Vocals recorded in 2025.”
The track is a cover of a Minor Threat song called I Don’t Wanna Hear It. Minor Threat was a short-lived but influential American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C., by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. They split up in 1983, but clearly had a profound effect on the Foo Fighters. MacKaye went on to form Fugazi in 1986.
#FF30, a hashtag attached to the video, indicates that this is part of the Foo Fighters’ celebration of their thirty-year anniversary. Their eponymous debut album was released in 1995. The iconic rockers have also recently launched a blog on the online blog platform Substack, called ‘Foo Fighters Field Notes.’ The description of the Substack reads, “Rock band…for thirty years.”
Indeed, it hasn’t been an easy couple of years for the Foo Fighters. In 2022, the band’s drummer and backing vocalist, Taylor Hawkins, passed away. In a shared statement, the band wrote, “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever."
The last time the beloved band released a single online was their collaborative track with Grammy Award-winning R&B singer H.E.R., The Glass. Their last album, But Here We Are, was released in 2023.

In The Music’s 4/5 star review for the album, Stephen Green concluded: “On But Here We Are, he [Dave Grohl] has created a pop-rock opus, delivering complex emotion through simple lyrics and melodies in a way that hits directly at the heart. It's emotionally heavy, yet completely accessible, and in working through his own pain, Dave Grohl has created a mainstream album for thinking and feeling.
“It delivers hit rock songs, takes the listener on an almost crushing emotional journey, but crucially sets them free.”
Controversy swirled around the band in September 2024, after Grohl announced that he had fathered a child outside his marriage.
But in spite of it all, Foo Fighters are still going strong.
