Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Passes Away, Aged 50

“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever."

Foo Fighters member Taylor Hawkins has unexpectedly passed away.

The 50-year-old drummer's death was confirmed today via the band.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band said in a statement.

“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

After getting his start touring with Alanis Morissette, Hawkins replaced original Foo Fighters drummer William Goldsmith in 1997.

Most recently, Hawkins starred in the band's horror-comedy Studio 666 and visited Australia earlier this month for a massive Foo Fighters stadium show in Geelong, was expected to return to the country later this year for a full national tour.

The band are currently on tour in South America and no cause of death has been revealed.
