New Years Eve just got even bigger, with ABC TV announcing this morning that international superstar Robbie Williams will be ringing in the new year in Sydney and on televisions across Australia.
Williams will be performing a “slew of hits” as well as promoting his biopic Better Man which opens on Boxing Day. The film has received rave reviews from critics and has turned heads with the pop superstar portayed in the film by a monkey.
Williams said: “I love and adore Australia, and the Sydney fireworks are truly magical. To be ringing in the New Year in the country where my biopic movie, Better Man, was shot will be the perfect end to 2024 and the ideal start to 2025. I can’t wait to perform and celebrate with my incredible Australian fans”.
Touring Australia last year, Williams is undeniably one of the world’s greatest pop icons, starting with boy band Take That before launching a solo career that has seen him clock over 85 million album sales. His AFL Grand Final performance was lauded as one of the code’s best and it’s expected he’ll bring the same swagger as the clock ticks down to midnight next week.
The last-minute addition is a surprise with an already-impressive announcement including Fanning Dempsey National Park (Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey), Cyril, 1300, Nooky, Becca Hatch and G Flip. International country star Randy Houser will also be performing and the night wouldn’t be complete without the Queen of New Years’ Eve, Casey Donovan.

The night will be hosted by Zan Rowe, Charlie Pickering and Concetta Caristo. With the fireworks always an Australian tradition, in recent years the ABC’s broadcast has itself become appointment viewing with its joyous celebration of great artists, well-known songs and vibe that has hit all the right notes.
This year, there’s multiple ways to tune in to the epic event. Festivities kick off on Tuesday 31 December at 8.30pm on ABC TV, ABC iview and across ABC socials on YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. The concert will also be broadcast on ABC Local Radio, from 9pm AEDT.
International audiences will be able to tune in to ABC Australia, and the fireworks displays will be audio described for the vision impaired and available on the ABC listen app.
