Soundgarden unveil artwork to new retrospective album
Soundgarden have unveiled the artwork to their upcoming career-spanning retrospective album, Telephantasm. As their first release since 1996, Telephantasm will include material from all of Soundgarden’s albums and EPs and will feature the previously unreleased song “Black Rain”, which has been unearthed from the band’s Badmotorfinger sessions. Deluxe editions of the album consisting of two CDs and a DVD will also be released. The album will be released internationally September 27. The artwork for Telephantasm is available to view here. Earlier this year, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell broke the news via twitter that the band would reform after a 12 year break. They have since gone on to perform as headliners at this year’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago. However, fans may have to wait with their fingers crossed for new material. Children of Bodom new album update
Finnish metal luminaries Children of Bodom have told fans to expect nothing less than “the perfect storm” for their upcoming seventh studio album. As reported by KYS, the band has entered Finland’s Petrax Studios with producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet, Hatebreed) to record their as-yet-untitled seventh studio album. The band described the album as “the perfect storm” via their myspace blog. “We’re very excited to let everyone hear what we’re creating with this new record. Everything you love about CHILDREN OF BODOM has been magnified tenfold and we’re pushing ourselves harder than ever before. The Sword stream new album
Austin, Texas metal band The Sword are streaming their new album, Warp Riders, on their Myspace page. Fans can listen to the new album here. The Sword guitarist/vocalist John "J. D." Cronise recently elaborated on details of the album during an interview with Decibel magazine. "This is what you'd technically call a 'concept album,' though I'd describe it as more of a soundtrack to a story I came up with. All the songs are about aspects of the story, but they don't cover every detail from beginning to end. It's a science fiction story, and it deals heavily with themes of light and dark and perceptions of time. One of the main settings is a planet, which has experienced tidal locking, creating a side of perpetual day and a side of perpetual night. The reason for creating a narrative to base the songs around was essentially to provide interesting and varied lyrical subject matter with a core theme to tie it all together," Cronise told Decibel.
