Tina ArenaTina Arena has announced a new covers EP, Way of the World, where she pays tribute to Australian and international icons.
Today (7 August), she’s unveiled the first single: a cover of New Order’s True Faith. The EP is set for release on Friday, 16 October, which you can pre-order/pre-save here. Check out the music video for Arena’s version of True Faith below.
Recorded primarily at Synth Temple in Melbourne, the EP was produced by François Tétaz and Luke Howard. The collection is home to orchestral arrangements, littered with piano, analogue synthesisers, and electronic textures.
In addition to reimagining the New Order classic, Arena has also put her own spin on Way of the World, originally recorded by Michael Hutchence’s side project, Max Q – recently also covered beautifully by Paul Dempsey, Depeche Mode’s Enjoy The Silence, Duran Duran’s Ordinary World, Torno Bambina by Ada Mori, and Frank Ocean’s Cayendo.
Speaking on her True Faith cover, Arena said, “Making the deliberate choice to focus on the lyric of true faith was musically revelatory for me. It presented a blank musical canvas with endless vulnerability and space for me to explore.”
Way of the World follows Tina Arena’s 2023 album, Love Saves. It arrives during an exciting time for the acclaimed Australian singer, who celebrates her landmark 50th career anniversary this year.
The trailer for her forthcoming documentary, Tina Arena: Unravel Me, was unveiled late last month. Premiering at the Melbourne International Film Festival next week (12 August) and landing in cinemas later this month, the film showcases “an intimate, cinematic portrait” revealed by Tina the music icon and Tina the woman.
The documentary contains archival footage and new interviews with Tina’s sisters, mentor Johnny Young, and peers including Celine Dion, Ronan Keating, Marc Anthony, Desmond Child and Jessica Mauboy.
One of the highest-selling Australian artists of all time, Arena has sold over ten million albums worldwide, earned 25 ARIA Award nominations – winning seven – and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2015.
