Music Victoria has shared an exciting new announcement, launching the inaugural Playbook Series this month.
The support network for artists in the state, Music Victoria will introduce its new event series with an unpacking of Alice Ivy’s latest album, Do What Makes You Happy, on Wednesday, 23 July, at Collingwood Yards in Melbourne.
The new series has been created with emerging artists and music industry professionals in mind. It will cover a range of topics, including digital marketing, audience development, release strategy, and finance, as well as two far-reaching discussions about the future of Victorian music festivals and the use of AI in music.
Artists and industry professionals will have the opportunity to network with fellow peers and experts, while taking in tools and advice recommended to enhance their music careers.
In addition to the Alice Ivy event (and more to be announced), Music Victoria will host the next generation of creative talent by putting a JMC Academy student under the spotlight.
Music Victoria members and interested parties from the public will be able to attend the ticketed events. You can view the ticket prices below and learn more about Music Victoria Membership here.

Alice Ivy’s new album features collaborations with Mayer Hawthorne, Kah-Lo, BJ The Chicago Kid, Josh Teskey, Sam Austins, and more. Upon release, it debuted at #1 on the ARIA Australian Dance Albums chart and #5 on the ARIA Australian Albums chart.
For the Playbook Series event, she’ll be joined by her manager Zac Abroms (Viceroyalty) and appear in conversation with Huw Nolan (Here for Good Agency, Good Manners Music).
"Do What Makes You Happy was written at a time when we were finally allowed to create music in the room with each other again,” Ivy explained last November. “You can just feel the emotion and energy, because we were all so grateful to be back doing what we love. I feel like I’ve come full circle on what genuinely excites me about making music; live instrumentation, analogue sounds and music written outside of the box.”
She added, “Most of the vocal recordings on the album were tracked on the first day of writing. The music that inspires me, Motown and soul music, was generally done in a few takes, and everything feels so raw and warm; that’s how I like to sonically describe Do What Makes You Happy. I like to think of every layer of this record as art in its purest and most natural form.”
