This is a very good, intermittently great album that just barely fails to escape the ideas that define its sounds.

It could be argued that this isn’t a technically perfect album, it’s actually that lack of perfection that helps makes Deep Deep Love so charming.

We Are... Firearms clocks up a mere 27 minutes or so, but Firearms have loaded this fleeting time with plenty of punch and made sure there’s not a dull moment on the record.

With a spinning mirrorball above, spotlights trained on the ceiling, and dry ice thickening the air, the delicate textures and twining harmonies of Whale and Spring emphatically build and release.

An iced bucket full of beers appears on demand and Perkins proceeds to sing To Us entirely to his beer bottle – gazing at it, fondling it, and taking well-timed slugs as he sings.

It wouldn’t be a Tomahawk show without a curveball and, after a languid cover of George Jones’ country hit Just One More, the audience was left grinning and mellow.
