As the cliché goes, sometimes the journey is as important as the destination. In tonight’s case, the journey is one of exceptional highs.

Despite the ambition behind it, Live To Air isn’t a Festival highlight.

While entertaining for a range of age groups, this show will be most appreciated by a young adult audience – or at least those with a grasp of the phrase “no homo”.

Although the crowd started slowly fading away during the last couple of bands, Hits & Pits – a festival for people who hate festivals – was a great way to kick off an amazing week’s worth of punk shows in Perth.

The night showed why Walker is such an important talent as a singer-songwriter, destined for great things if he keeps putting on shows like these.

It was a frustrating evening for those who were hoping to hear the developing sound from a promising band, but all fell short.

This intimate concert was a prime example of the Australian Theatre Tour providing some of his most incredible appearances and performances to date.

The production is pristine (thanks to veterans Wayne Connolly and Tim Whitten), which allows the band to step out beneath the shoegaze banner they’ve proudly waved in the past and truly embrace every excellently-paced element of the band’s functionality.

In their most honest and original release since 2005, Alkaline Trio have injected new life into the band.
