Denmark's Nanna Øland Fabricius - more widely known as OH LAND - is just days off releasing the follow up record to her self-titled release. As we wait patiently though, she's treated us with the film clip to the albums latest single 'Renaissance Girls'.
Oh Land finds herself situated inside a huge, empty warehouse, before walking along the dirt road of an industrial area. Sporting loud clothing and eccentric hair, both her lyrics and appearance establish a feminist message in 'Renaissance Girls'. Referring to a period of time where women suffered oppression greatly, Oh Land battles misogynistic views by rejecting previous societal stigmas.
You'll find her ironically knitting with a group of other women, as well as take the front end of a quad bike; obviously alluding to the fact that it shouldn't be a gender-specific hobby. With the children at the end of the clip representing a new generation, this is a glimmer of hope for the positive progression of a woman's role in society.
Oh Land's forthcoming album Wish Bone draws influence from the limitations of the singer's own physicality as the artist damaged her back, altering her future as a ballerina. Wish Bone will be released this Friday, 1st November via Dave Sitek's (of TV On The Radio) label Federal Prism. Sitek also features on the record, alongside other collaborative efforts from Sia, WNDRBRD and Dan Carey.
