Everything Everything are an awesome live act, and one that will be playing to much bigger crowds next time they are in Australia.

Daughter are not the world’s most miraculously innovative or ground-breaking act, but with shows like this, they’re likely to become an indispensable figure of the current pop music landscape.

On these shores, Airbourne’s pretension-free fare deserves to be ruling arenas and gaining more prominent main stage festival spots, rather than preaching to the converted in clubs.

By the time the set closed out with the uplifting dancealong jig of Lightning Bolt, there was no doubt that the ordinary-looking boy on stage is set for extraordinary things.

The big finale of a drum and lights show was sublimely primal – a true “I remember when” moment for the lucky audience.

An encore nicknamed The Beast demands the full attention of all nine performers who cleverly weave Rick James’ iconic Superfreak bass melody into the mix, leaving the audience enthralled, soothed and moved in equal measures.

It’s a shame there are so few people here to witness these three great bands, who are truly in their element putting on an incredible live show. Disappointing for a city that prides itself on a thriving music scene.

Flannery finishes with Safety Rope: a brilliant example of his lyrical talents and the simplistic charm that comes with a distinctive voice and keys. At this song’s completion, the awestruck crowd rise to their feet to give Flannery a standing ovation.
