Everything EverythingUnfortunately for the crowd Clubfeet were a late scratching, so it was up to Vydamo to warm the swelling audience up, a job they did admirably. The band showed their range as they traversed through a varied back catalogue, with ballads and danceable numbers interchanged with ease. While the crowd definitely reacted more favourably to the upbeat tracks – triple j-approved Gonna Make It was a clear standout live – no one could accuse the set of not being fun. The set showed a band with plenty more hits in them, and the release of their debut album could see them take off.
The stage was then set for British boys Everything Everything's first Australian performance, and it was worth the wait. Sporting matching yellow and grey outfits, frontman Jonathan Higgs and Co. were on song right from the get-go, putting in a pitch-perfect performance that had the crowd texting their cousins and boyfriends in excitement.
As everyone who's listened to the band knows, Higg's voice is one of a kind, and this was even more apparent live. While Alex Robertshaw's imaginative guitar work and Jeremy Pritchard's wandering bass lines make the songs the pop gems they are, Higg's emotional and jumping vocals are what makes the band truly unique.
Thankfully for fans the band played songs off both their albums and included many of the slower tracks that could have fallen off a track listing, though the major punch was left to the end, with recent singles Cough Cough and Kemosabe whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
Before the set, this reviewer was oddly nervous to see how the band would transfer their odd pop tracks to the live setting. But it all worked. Everything Everything are an awesome live act, and one that will be playing to much bigger crowds next time they are in Australia.
