This evening was a showcase of some bands that could very well be the next generation of Australian chart toppers.

The band are ambassadors for instrumental music in the local scene and nationwide, and Saturday night’s performance was ample proof as to why that is so.

The selling out of both their shows in Perth is no shock as Boy & Bear are a phenomenal act.

The frowns on a few band members’ faces throughout the show suggest that technical issues make it all a bit of a struggle.

Frequently screwing up and laughing, ultimately they don’t seem to take this event particularly seriously. However their playful personalities can’t help but win punters over every time.

Unfortunately, the end of their set did seem to peter out a little: the band tested out a few unreleased tracks, which didn’t quite seem to stick.

While Hundred Acre Wood have not quite found their sound yet, they are well on the way to becoming a nationally recognised act.

Cronin smashed each song with enthusiasm, giving his whole body and voice to every note, making the night immeasurably enjoyable and the very definition of fun.

This cuts the energy a bit for the rest of the set, but not by much, and by the time the last track comes around (a surprising but pretty spot-on cover of Wreckless Eric’s Whole Wide World) both the band and the crowd are grinning again.
