Empire Of The SunIt seems that artists across all genres and countries are talking about AI, and now, Empire of the Sun singer Luke Steele has also weighed in on the matter.
In a recent interview with iHeartRadio Canada, Steele shared that “of course” he uses AI and described it as “just another tool” for musicians and believes the embrace of AI is inevitable.
“It’s quite exciting, the humans versus AI,” Steele commented, contrasting utilising AI-assisted studio tools to using “a really smart guitar pedal.”
Steele, responding to the controversy around artists being against using AI, said he believes the tools are “so powerful.” He added that AI will “empower artists that know how to use it, and they’re going to become unstoppable.”
He continued, “The artists that are against it have got to be careful, because it’s going to come and swallow you like a boogie monster at night.”
However, when it came to a question about the environmental impact of AI, Steele seemed to wave off the concerns, saying, “I think we gotta embrace it.”

This week, ARIA confirmed they’re in the process of “working through” an approach to excluding AI music from the Australian charts.
A spokesperson for ARIA told The Music, “We support the principle that wholly AI-generated tracks shouldn’t be in the ARIA Charts and we're working through what that looks like locally, using the same process we apply for any chart change to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the charts is upheld for artists and fans.”

In July 2024, Empire of the Sun unveiled their long-awaited fourth album, Ask That God, the follow-up to 2016’s Two Vines. It contained the singles Changes, Music on the Radio, and Cherry Blossom, as well as their 2023 collaboration with PNAU, AEIOU.
The group then toured Australia for the first time since 2017, hitting massive venues including the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne and the Red Hill Auditorium in Perth, to name a few.
