Brad ButcherQueensland songwriter Brad Butcher certainly doesn’t take too many risks, nor does he hit too many emotional highs on Jamestown.
His style is a calm and measured approach but too often that’s a recipe for songs blending together without enough dynamism across the 11 tracks. Occasionally his songs do excel, particularly the new single, Two Women, a bluesy diversion from the balladeer approach that permeates most of the album, and the title track, which hits a rock’n’roll/bluegrass vibe, saving the album from becoming invisible in the middle of the road.
