A new podcast celebrating Australian music and the stories you won’t find on Google has landed on YouTube.

The series, Rock of Oz Ages, debuted last week (10 September) and continues with new episodes premiering weekly on Thursdays at 3 pm AEST.

With each episode, the series tracks the musical eras that forged Australia’s cultural identity, from the 1950s and the birth of the Australian rock scene, to the swinging 60s, the meteoric rise in popularity for pub rock in the 70s, the bold and bright 80s, grunge-driven 90s, the noughties, and into today.

“This exciting new series celebrates the soundtrack that shaped a nation — the songs, the stories, and the artists who defined generations of Australian music,” a press release notes.

The series connects the dots between past and present, celebrating musical pioneers and championing future names in Australian music.

Rock of Oz Ages is presented by respected Australian artist managers Michael Browning and Richard Cartwright, who bring decades of industry knowledge and experience to the table.

Episode one, which premiered last week, saw Browning and Cartwright examine the ride of Johnny O’Keefe, The Easybeats, and Billy Thorpe, tracking the latter’s role at Sunbury Festival. Plus, Browning revealed how he met AC/DC’s Angus and Malcolm Young and how he rescued the rockers from being stranded in the outback.

In addition to spending time in the past, the pair put the spotlight on an up-and-coming Australian band, Large Mirage.

Check out the episode below.

Michael Browning began trading in the music industry during the late ‘60s. He was the co-owner and house booker of the venue, Sebastians, and began representing bands before joining forces with Michael Gudinski and creating the booking agency, Consolidated Rock.

As an artist manager, he signed Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs before discovering AC/DC in the late ‘70s, signing them and propelling their international success. Browning went on to sign INXS and Noiseworks in the ‘80s.

Richard Cartwright also built a career in the ‘80s, primarily as a music publicist and A&R manager. He worked with companies such as Mushroom and WEA and recording artists including Divinyls, Split Enz, Skyhooks, Hunters & Collectors, Paul Kelly, and many others. Plus, he signed Electric Pandas and I’m Talking.

Both co-hosts, along with their incredible music industry experience, are published authors.
