Mississippi trio Bass Drum Of Death crank the garage scuzz with cleaner production on third album, Rip This, with conflicting results.
Much of the record is indebted to letting fly – songs like Electric, Left For Dead and Sin Is In 10 all explode, pedals crunched, vocals stretched. The major difference between Rip This and a Ty Segall cut is warmth and subtlety – important omissions. Apart from the last two tracks – the acoustic, woozy pop of Better Days and Bolan glam-aping Route 69 (Yeah) – there’s nothing new here.
