More than nine years on from their last release of new music, Melbourne indie rock veterans The Temper Trap are back with their new single, Lucky Dimes.
Released today, the new track is the first taste of a long-awaited comeback from the group. Bolder and heavier than most of what’s come before, it still sees The Temper Trap leaning into their famed indie rock sound, albeit it with thumping beats and guitar lines which feel as though they’ll burst apart at any moment.
It’s already served as a solid addition to their recent live shows, and now the track has seen its official release, accompanied by a frenetic performance video directed by Joey Clough.
“Good to know that 9 years after the last one, we still have something to say,” explains vocalist and guitarist Dougy Mandagi. “It’s been an absolute pleasure creating this record and we can’t wait to share it with you, not to relive the past but to write the next chapter.“
First rising to fame in the latter half of the ‘00s with the likes of debut single Sweet Disposition, The Temper Trap hit No. 9 on the Aussie charts with 2009 debut album Conditions, before 2012’s self-titled effort and 2016’s Thick As Thieves both topped the chart.
Since 2016, it’s been a little quiet. They’ve still been playing live, and alongside a raft of remixes and a cover of The Church’s Under The Milky Way in 2023, The Temper Trap have been biding their time when it comes to new gear.

Most recently, they managed to make it into triple j's Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs, with Sweet Disposition just missing out on the top ten at No. 11.
Fans are urged to keep an eye out for new touring news coming in the future, though it remains to be seen if we’ll be getting even more new music along the way.
