The first of four specials aired last night.

Last night's Spicks & Specks Ausmusic month special has smashed the ratings.

The episode was the first of four special editions of the much-loved music quiz show to air and picked up 721,000 viewers

The show, which featured regulars Adam Hills, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough as well as special guests Nina Oyama, Rove McManus, Brian Mannix, Missy Higgins and more, even managed to beat Channel Nine's mega-rating Hamish & Andy's Perfect Holiday which aired at the same time with 715,000 viewers. This makes Spicks & Specks the highest rating entertainment show of the evening.

It was a big night of music programming for ABC, with the Michael Hutchence Mystify documentary following Spicks & Specks. It picked up 418,000 but was beaten in its time slot by 60 Minutes.

There are three more Spicks & Specks specials lined-up for 2020. The show returned with its original cast for last year's Ausmusic Month and was a huge ratings success, drawing over 900,000 viewers.

“From the moment Alan, Myf and I were together in a room for last year’s Spicks & Specks reunion special, we had each other in fits of laughter," Hills said of the show's return in 2019.

"Any time I can spend with those two fools is time well spent, and if it takes four more specials to make that happen – so be it!

"The response to last year’s show was overwhelming, both in the studio when we filmed it, and at home when it went to air. Spicks & Specks has a special place in our hearts, and I’m genuinely excited to make a few more specials for the ABC."
