English rockers Suede are returning to Australia in January 2027 after a 25-plus-year absence, taking over the Sydney Opera House.
The Mercury Prize-winning glam-rock, cinematic-pop pioneers return to Australia for the first time since 1999. For this run of shows, Suede will make their Sydney Opera House debut with three consecutive nights inside the Concert Hall.
The shows take place from Thursday, 28 to Saturday, 30 January. Suede will perform three of their defining records in their entirety – 1993’s self-titled album, 1994’s Dog Man Star, and 1996’s Coming Up – showcasing one album per night.
Plus, the band will host a second set of classics inspired by their recent albums, including 2022’s Autofiction and their Mercury Prize-nominated 2025 album, Antidepressants.
Subscribers to Sydney Opera House’s Insiders can access pre-sale tickets on Tuesday, 6 October, at 9 am AEDT. What’s On subscribers are next, with the pre-sale opening on Wednesday, 7 October, at 9 am AEDT.
The general sale commences on Friday, 9 October, at 9 am AEDT. Head to the Sydney Opera House website for more details.
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, said of hosting the exclusive Suede shows, “I discovered Suede in 1993, with the impossibly glamorous Brett Anderson staring out at me from the cover of Select and prompting the immediate thought: ‘Who is THAT?’
“The band didn’t just look the part. Suede’s epic, visceral sound could veer from ferocious intensity to tortured delicacy, and I admired their wilful refusal to follow fashion.”
Marshall continued, “Unbelievably, this incendiary live band is only making its second-ever visit to Australia. Their brilliant, recorded work often revels in dark, sweeping melodrama, but live, that drama is transmuted into something ferocious, raw and utterly visceral.
“And what a return – a Sydney-only appearance, performing their first three immaculate albums in full – one album a night, night after night – in-the-round, amid the grandeur of the Opera House Concert Hall. It’ll be worth the quarter-century wait.”
Suede catapulted onto the music scene in the early 1990s, helping lead the charge of the Britpop era with their dramatic take on guitar-led rock music. Their self-titled debut became the fastest-selling British debut album in almost a decade and won the prestigious Mercury Prize.
Dog Man Star came a year later, followed by Coming Up in 1996. Marking their first UK #1 album, Coming Up features the hits Trash, Beautiful Ones, and Saturday Night. Last year’s Antidepressants marked their tenth studio album.
