"A brutal but very beautiful record nested in a communal catastrophe."
After teasing details earlier this year, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have shocked fans with the surprise release of new album, Carnage.
Recorded during the COVID lockdown, Carnage marks the first album for the longtime collaborators as a duo, with Cave describing it as "a brutal but very beautiful record nested in a communal catastrophe".
Ellis added, "Making Carnage was an accelerated process of intense creativity.
"The eight songs were there in one form or another within the first two and a half days.”
Listen to Carnage, which will be released on CD and vinyl on 28 May, in full below.

The surprise album release comes after Cave shared his Idiot Prayer: Nick Cave Alone At Alexandra livestreamed concert event, which has now been given a cinematic run and an album release. Read the review of it here.
Meanwhile just last week Ellis announced he will release a brand new album with music icon Marianne Faithfull in April, which also features Cave and Brian Eno.
