Metallica have announced their first shows since the recent cancellation of their Australian tour.

The group will headline shows in the US from May next year according to Rolling Stone, with stops planned for North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky and California.

Metallica announced the postponement of their Aus tour just weeks ago with the band sharing that frontman James Hetfield needed to re-enter a treatment facility for addiction issues.

They were due to kick off the run in Perth on 17 October before heading to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

"We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand," read a statement from band members Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Rob Trujillo.

"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.

"We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can."

There are currently no rescheduled dates announced for Australia. The Green Room With Neil Griffiths podcast caught up with Trujillo earlier this year, check it out below.
