Metallica Call Off Upcoming Australian Tour

Metallica have cancelled their upcoming Australian tour. 

The news was announced via promoters Live Nation this morning, with band members Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Rob Trujillo issuing a statement, saying that their Australian and New Zealand tours have been postponed. 

"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years," it reads.

"He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again." See the full statement below.

Metallica were due to kick off the tour, with Slipknot as support, in Perth on 17 October before heading to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Live Nation have announced that ticket refunds will be issued. More information about refunds can be found here.

The promoters have also shared that they are working with the band to secure a new tour period.

Slipknot, who were to perform at the shows as Metallica's special guests, also issued a statement shortly after.

"We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.

"We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can.

"Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows. 

"We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family."
