Australian pop-rock outfit The Vanns performed at the Old Bar Beach Festival in NSW on Saturday (3 October) and were forced to cut their set short after bassist Tom Switlek experienced a health scare.

Per setlist.fm, the band had performed seven songs – they had already played four songs from their 2023 album, Last of Your Kind – when, during the eighth song, Chelsea, they stopped playing as Switlek had “fainted” and required medical attention.

In a statement posted on social media, The Vanns didn’t say what the health scare entailed, but they did thank the paramedics on site who assisted Switlek.

As a result of the incident, the band cancelled their appearance at 7th Day Brewery in Brookvale, scheduled for yesterday (4 October).

“Hey everyone. Last night we were playing at Old Bar Beach festival and an incident occurred where we had to cut our set short due to a health scare with Tom,” the band wrote on Instagram yesterday.

They continued, “Firstly we want to let you all know that Tom is doing well and we want to thank the St John's Paramedic who assisted him onsite.

“Unfortunately this means we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight's show at 7th Day Brewery in Brookvale. Sorry to everyone who made plans to come out tonight but our boy Tommy & health comes first.”

The Vanns’ next show takes place at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi on Friday, 23 October. Then, they’ll perform at the Newcastle edition of Crafted Festival on Saturday, 7 November, followed by the Melbourne date on Saturday, 21 November.

Last August, The Vanns released their latest album, All That’s In My Head. The band recorded their latest LP across two fortnight-long sessions: one in London and the other in Wollongong.

The eleven-track album showcases the group’s growth and staying power and follows the hit album Last Of Your Kind, which debuted at #8 on the ARIA Charts when it was released in March 2023. In March of this year, the band unveiled a reimagined version of their single Gas Craic with powerhouse country rocker Brad Cox.

Since forming over a decade ago, The Vanns have made a name for themselves with relentless tours, festival appearances, and a string of successful albums and singles.
