More Foo Fighters More Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters have kicked off September with a number of teasers on social media, advising fans to assemble and sign up for their newsletter for updates.

The first post dropped on Friday (5 September), when the band shared a photo of six pairs of shoes captioned with, “Foo Fighters Assemble!!! Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter for info you won’t want to miss... just sayin’...”

The following day, a new photo landed, of frontman and guitarist Dave Grohl, guitarist Pat Smear, and bassist Nate Mendel visibly playing in the studio. The band captioned the post, “Studio 606 / 2025.”

On Sunday (7 September), Foo Fighters shared another photo, this time of guitarist Chris Shiflett. “Shifty Sunday!!!” the band teased, before adding: “Sign up for more important shredding updates here,” linking to their newsletter.

What’s next? Will Foo Fighters confirm the identity of their new drummer this week?

In late July, it was speculated that Foo Fighters had locked in their new drummer, with reports that the rockers had conducted a swap with industrial outfit Nine Inch Nails.

It was reported that Foo Fighters secured Nine Inch Nails’ longtime drummer Ilan Rubin. Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails confirmed that following Josh Freese being let go from Foo Fighters a few months ago, he’s returned behind the kit with Trent Reznor and co. Freese has since been on the road with the group on their Peel It Back tour.

A source reportedly confirmed to Variety that Ilan Rubin, who has played drums for Nine Inch Nails from 2008 to 2009, and again from 2013 until now, will leave the band and join Foo Fighters. Neither representatives for Rubin nor Foo Fighters confirmed the rumours.

Earlier this year, Foo Fighters shared two “new” songs with fans: a cover of Minor Threat’s I Don’t Wanna Hear It and an original number called Today’s Song, which commemorates the band’s 30th anniversary.

“Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,” Dave Grohl posted at the time. “Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.”

With their return to Studio 606, could Foo Fighters be preparing for the follow-up to 2023’s But Here We Are? We’ll have to wait and see.
