"It truly inspires me to just cut loose and not think about where colours or lines go. It just happens through the beats.”

Sunshine Coast-based artist Steven Bordonaro will return to The Triffid this weekend for one of his acclaimed ‘live painting’ endeavours.

Back in March, Bordonaro produced a ‘live painting’ at the venue while Sunny Coast Rude Boys and The Allniters performed, creating a spontaneous and dynamic portrayal of the gig in real-time, which was then auctioned off, raising $3,000 for UNICEF to help the people of Ukraine.

Punters will be treated once again this Saturday, July 23, when Bordonaro will gather his brushes again to produce another unique piece while Britpop heavyweights Cool Britannia rock the stage (the theme of his next painting will fittingly be the UK).

The funds raised from this weekend’s auction will be donated to Hummingbird House (Brisbane), which provides specialised paediatric palliative care services to babies, children and young people with a life-limiting condition.

Bordonaro told The Music the atmosphere at the last event was “incredible”.

“It was an amazing experience to interact with the audience while I was throwing paint around,” he said.

“Heaps of very positive comments and the outcome was fantastic. Especially that the piece was auctioned off later in the night to raise funds for the people of Ukraine.”

Bordonaro shared that he often paints to music.

“I feel it gives my abstract/cubism style of painting a flow and energy that exudes through the music I listen to,” he noted. “Which, a lot of the time is listening to Flamenco, as my wife and I are into it in a big way. OLE!”

On how live music influences his work, he added: “I think the audience can be related to my art if I have fun depictions of people throughout, and I feel I get into a groove while painting to music.

“It’s all so spontaneous and I just try to paint how I am feeling through the music. It truly inspires me to just cut loose and not think about where colours or lines go. It just happens through the beats.”
