Dogfight Records announce Takedown 2011
Dogfight Records’ annual Takedown Festival has marked itself as one of the highlights on the hardcore calendar. Now in it’s third year, the line up for 2011 brings old and new together, to showcase just how diverse and talented the Australian hardcore scene actually is. After breaking up in 2007, Adelaide’s Shotpointblank reformed earlier this year for a benefit show in Melbourne as a part of the 100 Shows For Haiti, before playing a reunion show in their hometown. Takedown will be one of the last opportunities fans will get to see a band that shaped Australian hardcore into what it is today. It’s undeniable that the past 18 months have been hectic for Sydney mosh-metallers, Shinto Katana. They released their second album, We Can’t Be Saved and have toured with the likes of Deez Nuts and Emmure. And what better way to end a year than by playing Takedown. Relentless put their stamp on the Sydney hardcore scene just over two years ago. What followed has been a debut full-length, Se...

Counterparts announce new album
Canadian melodic-hardcore outfit Counterparts is currently recording their new album, slated for an October 25th, 2011 release date. The effort is entitled The Current Will Carry Us and is now available for pre-order at the Victory Records Webstore. Defining the “hard” in hardcore, Counterparts delivers a seamless concoction of heavy and melodic elements on their crushing Victory debut. The album is brimming with aggressive positivity. “The Current Will Carry Us is smarter, angrier, faster, and heavier, all while continuing to be very melodic. This blows anything we’ve previously done out of the water,” expresses vocalist Brendan Murphy. With the welcoming of drummer Ryan Juntilla, Counterparts has solidified their line-up, completed by vocalist Murphy, guitarists Jesse Doreen and Alex Re, and bassist Eric Bazinet. “We’ve all grown up a lot since our last album, and it’s reflective through the music. We’re really proud of what we’ve done with this one,” says Murphy.

Young Statues sign with Run For Cover Records
Young Statues have signed with Boston, MA’s Run For Cover Records. The band, led by songwriter/vocalist Carmen Cirignano, will release its self-titled debut CD/LP/Digital release on November 8, 2011. In the winter of 2010, a spontaneous trip to Athens, GA became the birth of New Jersey/Philadelphia indie-rock outfit Young Statues. The record first began to take shape at Chase Park Transduction Studios, where a series of songs were recorded between friends, songs that were initially never intended to be released. Intrigued by the results of these sessions, songwriter and vocalist Carmen Cirignano decided to continue working on them with longtime producer and engineer Steve Poponi at the Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, NJ. It was here, with the help of bassist Tom Ryan and drummer Daniel Bogan, that these songs were transformed into the impressive debut record for a band comprised of longtime friends in the Philadelphia area music scene. Full of swelling guitars, intricate vocal ...

Explosions In The Sky announce Australian tour
Instrumental Texan quartet Explosions In The Sky return to Australia this December with their powerfully intense live show. Equal parts romance and tragedy, their beautiful melodies have the tendency to ignite into head-spinning walls of noise. Made up of Mark Smith, Michael James and Munaf Rayani on guitars and Christopher Hrasky on drums, Explosions In The Sky signed to Temporary Residence Limited in 2000 after one listen to their demo, which was submitted by Texan allies the American Analog Set with a note simply stating "This totally fucking destroys." The band have since released seven albums, the latest being Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, described by the BBC as an ”eye-opening surge of splendour, like the first gasp of a newborn baby taking in the world for the very first time.” In addition to the already announced Meredith Music Festival, Explosions In The Sky will bring their epically moving and inspiring show to the Forum in Melbourne, The Metro in Sydney and The Hi F...
