Macaulay Culkin ProfileA month after announcing he’d be heading to Australia for a series of Home Alone screenings and Q&A events, Macaulay Culkin has cancelled the tour.
In a statement to Variety Australia, the actor’s team cited “scheduling conflicts”. It said, “Due to a scheduling conflict, A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin following a screening of ‘Home Alone’ has been cancelled. Refunds will be automatically issued at the point of purchase. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
Ticketing merchants for the Sydney shows, Ticketek, advised punters to look out for an email with more information.
They confirmed, “All tickets purchased (including refundable ticket purchases, VIP upgrades, parking and bar vouchers, if relevant) will be automatically refunded in full to the original payment method used.”
In mid-September, it was announced that Culkin would come to Australia in late November. The actor was due to attend a series of special screenings of the 1990 holiday favourite, Home Alone. After the screenings, he was scheduled to take part in a nostalgic Q&A about how the film came to life.
Events at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall and Sydney’s Enmore Theatre sold out immediately, with Melbourne’s Regent Theatre not far behind. A second Sydney show was added just days after tickets went on sale.
Fans of Home Alone would have heard Culkin revisit his memories of the film, share behind-the-scenes details of its filming, and reflect on why the hit film became the ultimate holiday classic.
Released in November 1990, the Chris Columbus-directed, John Hughes-written movie became one of the year's most popular films and one of the decade's biggest hits, turning Culkin into an overnight child star.
Leaning into the absurdity and ingenuity of Culkin’s Kevin McCallister as he sought to protect his family home from would-be thieves played by a hilarious Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern after he was inadvertently left – as the title suggests – home alone, the film proved to be a global sensation and saw its lead actors return for the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
