CHANNEL ONE (UK)
Mikey Dread & MC Ras Sherby
Formed in London in 1979, Channel One is one of the most respected and enduring names in global reggae and sound system culture. Founded by brothers Mikey Dread and Jah T, Channel One took its name from Jamaica’s legendary Channel One Studio, grounding their selections in roots, resistance, and Rastafari consciousness.
From early blues dances to becoming a cornerstone of Notting Hill Carnival since 1983, Channel One has spent over four decades shaping sound system culture worldwide. Their sessions are known for conscious reggae selections, exclusive dubplates, and uplifting steppas, delivered with authority and deep cultural intent.
Channel One’s mission remains clear:“To break down barriers through reggae music.”
Their journey includes Red Bull Culture Clash champions (2010), performances at Wembley Arena, Glastonbury & Boomtown Festival, long-standing London residencies, Arts Council–backed tours, and global reach through Worldwide FM. For this historic WA debut, Mikey Dread and MC Ras Sherby bring authentic Channel One energy to the mic.
KBI SOUND SYSTEM (WA)
Founded in Leicester, UK in 2002 by brothers Prez-I and Tubby MC, KBI Sound System is rooted in Love, Peace & Unity, values drawn from their African heritage and lifelong connection to music and community.
Inspired by Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti I, and Channel One, and dub pioneers Lee “Scratch” Perry and King Tubby, KBI built their sound from scratch. In 2012, they shipped their custom-built UK sound system to Western Australia, where they continue to unite communities through roots, bass, and truth.
